The first drytool competition this year was in Puurs Belgium. With more than 65 participants and a very good atmosphere a great day. There where 6 open routes to climb for every one.
Petzl arranged the gear for all the climbers helmets and great tools.
For the newby’s there was instruction by the “pro’s” so everyone was having a great time.
When all set it was time to climb the 2 qualification routes M8/9. The best 8 time’s/tops climbed the Finals.
Just before the Final’s the specials guest Jeff Mercier gave a Lecture about Extreme drytooling and mixed climbs around chamonix.
The competition was unexpectedly strong with talented Belgium rockclimbers and Mixed climbers from France and Germany. The final route was one BIG Beast, Through the main roof and over 40 Moves..
I climbed as number 6 and timed out on the end of the roof, but climbed on and fell off just 2 holds from the Top.
After me it was Yannick Lis and Jeff Mercier to climb the route.
Yannick found out that getting pumped on ice axes in a roof route is very diffrent from rockclimbing ;). So he made some very creative moves to take the pressure off his arms.
And Jeff climbed very well but popped of in the big roof from a bad hold.
Results L to R :Yannick Lis third,Dennis van Hoek First, Jeff Mercier second
