Bram and Arie have been (alpine) climbing together for over 20 years.
Bram, Arie and Dennis on their way to the Abruzzi hut.
Arie climbs weekly at our local gym and we are part of a small and very close group called the ‘MCPG’: Monte Cervino ‘cheers’ Society.
Monte Cervino because our gym is shaped and named after the famous mountain.
Both Arie and Bram had one big wish left on their list of 4000-ers in the Alps: climbing the famous Matterhorn.
They asked us to join them and establish the dream.
Our home gym in the Netherlands
And so we did.
Last week we did an ‘hit&run’ to the Monte Cervino.
In 6 days time we did a via-ferrata as warmup ánd climbed the mountain over the Italian side (Lion grat).
For Dennis and me it wasn’t so much a technical challenge, but with almost daily climbing in a gym named after this mountain we certainly had to climb it at least once.
Together with the less experienced Arie and Bram it did become a challenge though. And it was a good one.
Summit cheers
Often I’m not much focused on reaching the summit, more interested in the technical part, the route itself. But this time with all the uncertainties that come with forming such a team; it was quite emotional being on this wonderful summit.
Note: we are NOT mountainguides. This was a friends-with-friends adventure. We were not paid and all climbed on our own responsibility.
If you think “yes, I’d like to climb this too” please contact a professional mountainguide. For example Jelle Staleman Ski- en Bergsport, Roeland van Oss , Martijn Schell or Roberto Vigiani.
Soon a small movie about the six days on verticallife.nl
